Day 17

The day of our departure from Medan has come. Some of our precious brothers are knocking at the door at 7 a.m. to help us with our luggage and off it goes to the airport. On one hand we are looking forward to return back home, but on the other hand it is hard to separate from these precious saints here. They have been a very great blessing to us; we can see their genuine zeal and the manifestation of the Word in them.

Some of the believers took the one hour ride on their motorbikes to say goodbye at the airport. It doesn’t hinder them, if they don’t have a car, rain or shine, they are determined to do what they have on their hearts. One last photo and we have to rush through security with the usual procedures.

The flight to Jakarta takes about 2 hours. From there we connect to Hong Kong, where we have to stay over night and continue our 11 hour non-stop flight to Vancouver tomorrow.

When I reflect back on the last 14 days with the saints here in Medan, I cannot help but thank God for this special time. Every single journey is certainly different, because wherever we go we meet different people, conditions and cultures, but personally I have never learned so much as on this trip, where the Lord did some very important adjustments in my own life. We don’t realize how this civilization is influencing and trying to deform us, until He brings us to a place, where we can go back to the basics of life.

When we were at the camp ground in Nagasaribu, we had a little foam and a blanket, not the abundance of water or any of the North American advancements, but we had the abundance of the Word, and that was the most important thing. To see how happy these precious saints live in their environment has done something very special for me.

I want to end this journal with Paul’s words to the Philippians: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
