Day 6 – Kigali/Rwanda
December 5th, 2017
Pastor Balinda planned today for us to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which is an educational place for the people to remember the past and also to strive for a peaceful future. It seems that after that terrible genocide in 1994 the people live together in peace by the grace of God, striving never to let anything like that happen again.
When we arrive, we first watch a short video where survivors speak about their painful experiences, when they lost members of their families. After that we are going to the burial place of the remains of 250000 people, where we pray, followed by a tour through the museum, where a guide tells us about the history and and we are passing by big displays of photos of this terrible happening.
To think that in a time period of only three months one million people were killed and that those who were behind it are still walking around free… Many of them were killed in Catholic churches, where they thought to find refuge, but they were massacred right in there. Some of the believers went through hell; children saw their parents slaughtered and were left on their own, entire families were wiped out under unthinkable torture.
We took lots of photos, but I feel not to publish them here… it’s just too terrible to elaborate more on these things, but here is a website if anybody wants to look into it closer: www.kgm.rw
Since the Seventh Seal is open, we as believers know who and what is behind all those things.
When we return to the Guest House, some of the young people from Brother Balinda’s church are visiting and we are having a wonderful time of singing and fellowship for the rest of the day.
